SS-31: Protecting the Mitochondrial Power Plant

SS-31 AND THE MITOCHONDRIAL POWER PLANT

SS-31, also known as elamipretide, has been studied because of its interaction with mitochondrial biology.

In a 2026 study using a mouse spinal-cord-injury model and oxidatively stressed cells, researchers examined mitochondrial bioenergetics, neuronal preservation, oxidative stress, and neural remodeling.

The experimental results included improved locomotor measures in the mice and preservation of several mitochondrial measures in the cell experiments.

Very interesting research — but also very important context: this was mouse and cell research, not evidence that SS-31 produces the same recovery effects in humans.

Stay curious. ⚡🧬
