What Is Glutathione?

August 14, 2026 • General Education

🧬 WHAT IS GLUTATHIONE?

Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide, meaning it is made from three amino acids.

It is one of the body’s major intracellular antioxidant systems and plays a central role in redox balance — the chemistry cells use to manage oxidation and reduction.

Researchers study glutathione in oxidative stress, antioxidant defense, cellular metabolism, detoxification-related pathways, and maintenance of cellular homeostasis.

Glutathione can cycle between reduced and oxidized forms, which is part of how it participates in cellular antioxidant chemistry.

In simple terms: glutathione is one of the cell’s built-in tools for managing oxidative stress.

Stay curious, research friends. 🧬
