PT-141 is also known as bremelanotide.
It is a melanocortin receptor agonist studied for signaling in the central nervous system and for effects involving sexual desire and sexual function.
That is different from medicines whose primary mechanism is vascular. Bremelanotide research instead centers on melanocortin signaling in the brain.
A regulated prescription version, Vyleesi, is FDA-approved for a specific population of premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Its label specifically does not establish it as a general sexual-performance enhancer or an indication for men.
