Growth Hormone: Why Pulses Matter

August 23, 2026 • General Education

🧬 GROWTH HORMONE ISN’T JUST A NUMBER

The body doesn’t release growth hormone at one steady level all day. GH secretion is pulsatile.

GHRH provides a stimulatory signal from the hypothalamus. Somatostatin provides an inhibitory signal. Ghrelin/GHSR signaling can also influence GH release.

So when researchers study the GH axis, the pattern matters — not just a single number on a lab report.

That’s also why GH biology naturally leads into another molecule you’ll hear about a lot: IGF-1.
